Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is scheduled to address the European Parliament on Thursday during a formal sitting focused on EU-Canada relations amid rising geopolitical tensions. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is also expected to attend, followed by a press conference with Carney and Parliament President Roberta Metsola. The discussions are expected to highlight shared security and economic interests. Members of the European Parliament have previously called for closer cooperation with Canada, while the Parliament has announced plans to open an office in Ottawa to strengthen parliamentary relations. MEPs will also vote on resolutions concerning the humanitarian and security situation in Ceuta, including border protection, migration, cooperation with third countries and the role of Frontex. A separate report will address online safety for children and young people, calling for stronger privacy protections, age-appropriate design and greater transparency around algorithms. Additional votes will cover fisheries policy, drug trafficking in EU waters, media freedom in Hong Kong, political prisoners in Cuba, post-election repression in Zambia, healthcare-sector working conditions and global health resilience.
