Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said restarting negotiations to end Russia’s war was essential after meeting in Kyiv with U.S. presidential envoys Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner. He thanked the envoys and U.S. President Donald Trump for supporting renewed diplomatic efforts. Zelenskyy said the discussions covered possible negotiation formats, territorial issues, security guarantees and Ukraine’s postwar recovery. He said questions involving territory would likely require resolution by national leaders, while emphasizing the need for a strong Ukrainian military and economic support to rebuild the country. The talks also focused on preparations for winter, including efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses and energy infrastructure. Zelenskyy said Kyiv hoped to secure significant volumes of U.S. liquefied natural gas and other assistance from international partners. French, British and German officials also joined discussions in Kyiv. The participants agreed that Ukraine, Europe and the United States should meet again in the near future. Kushner said the U.S. was working with European partners to develop a framework for a durable peace and discussed the possibility of future trilateral talks involving Russia.
