Ukraine Forum Pushes Accessibility Forward

Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska joined the third national forum “My Accessibility – 2026,” where more than 350 government, business, municipal, veteran and international representatives discussed progress toward a barrier-free and inclusive society.

Held under the theme “Lessons Learned,” the forum highlighted initiatives including accessible driving schools, hospital-based “Schools of Superheroes,” barrier-free administrative service centers and the expansion of adaptive sports. Zelenska said nearly 30 accessibility projects are being implemented by ministries and local communities, while accessibility coordinators and ambassadors are being appointed nationwide.

The event also featured projects focused on inclusive education, veteran policy and respectful communication. A new “Language of Dignity” lesson was introduced in Ukrainian schools on Sept. 1 to promote inclusive language and mutual respect among students.

Zelenska said Ukraine’s new state standard on barrier-free terminology establishes vocabulary required in official communications. She argued that placing the person first in language reflects broader commitments to dignity and inclusion across government, communities and businesses.
