Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed preparations for a planned trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi during an online meeting with leaders of the Nordic and Baltic countries, known as the NB8. The talks focused on diplomatic efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine and on Europe’s role in security discussions.

Participants included the leaders of Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Denmark, Iceland, Latvia, Norway and Sweden. Zelenskyy thanked them for their support and said recent preparations had included consultations in Brussels, contacts with envoys of the U.S. president and ongoing communication between negotiating teams.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine had presented the American side with proposals for realistic outcomes from the Abu Dhabi meeting. The leaders agreed that European countries should participate in discussions concerning Europe’s security and receive security guarantees on an equal basis.

The Ukrainian president also briefed the leaders on the country’s needs ahead of winter, highlighting energy supplies and air defense. The participants agreed to continue coordinating their positions and supporting diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
