Ukraine Seeks Winter Support

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said negotiations with U.S. representatives and European officials in Kyiv focused on reviving diplomatic efforts, preparing for winter and establishing long-term security guarantees for Ukraine.

Speaking at a joint press conference, Zelenskyy said three rounds of talks had taken place and described them as substantive. He thanked U.S. envoys Steve and Jared for visiting Kyiv and said discussions addressed potential challenges if the war continues through the winter, including air defense and energy security.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine was seeking substantial volumes of American liquefied natural gas and support for its energy sector. He also said the participants discussed security and economic guarantees, Ukraine’s reconstruction and the need for a strong Ukrainian military to prevent a future return to war.

The president said territorial issues remained on the agenda but suggested that complex questions would ultimately need to be resolved by national leaders. He added that Ukraine, the United States and European countries had agreed to meet again in the near future as part of efforts to restart negotiations and work toward ending the war.
