Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, has received an icon depicting 17th-century Hetman Petro Konashevych-Sahaidachny from a military chaplain, according to the Ukrainian president’s official website. Kostyantyn Kholodov, a chaplain with Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, presented the icon to Budanov during a meeting on Nov. 4. The work was created by artist Alexander Klymenko and his son, Herman, who is serving on the front lines. The icon was made partly from wood taken from an ammunition crate. Kholodov said the works were intended for Ukrainians involved in defending the country, drawing a historical parallel with Sahaidachny, a military leader associated with the defense of Ukrainian territories and the development of the Kyiv Orthodox hierarchy. Three icons were produced and consecrated by military chaplains at the grave of Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky in Subotiv, in the Cherkasy region. One is expected to be given to Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyi, while another will go to Metropolitan Epiphanius of Kyiv and All Ukraine, head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
