A 26-year-old man was seriously injured in an alleged assault at a unit in Southport on the night of September 16, Queensland Police said. Officers were called to a property on North Street at about 10:45 p.m. following reports of an assault.

Police found the Broadbeach Waters man with a stab wound to his chest and lacerations to his face. He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in serious condition.

Investigators believe a group had gathered at the unit before a physical altercation broke out between two men known to each other. Police are continuing efforts to locate the other man involved and said there is no ongoing threat to the community.
