Queensland police charged 39 people with 63 offences during a high-visibility operation targeting large Halloween crowds in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley Safe Night Precinct over the weekend. Police also issued 22 banning notices as part of efforts to prevent antisocial behaviour and maintain public safety.

Operation Yankee Deepwell involved officers from general duties, the Tactical Crime Squad, Public Safety Response Team, Dog Squad, Mounted Unit, Bike Squad and plain-clothes teams. Highway patrol officers conducted roadside checks and static enforcement operations focused on detecting impaired driving.

Police said more people appeared to attend the precinct than during the previous year’s Halloween celebrations. In 2025, an estimated 58,920 patrons visited the area, compared with typical Friday-night crowds of about 28,000 and Saturday-night crowds of up to 48,000.

More than 35 drug-related offences, eight public nuisance offences and four offences involving obstruction of police were recorded during the operation. A 36-year-old Goomeri man was also charged after police allege he was found carrying a large knife and drug utensils during a wanding patrol. He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on November 27.

Acting Inspector Stuart Kerr said most visitors behaved appropriately but urged patrons to drink responsibly, plan their journey home and avoid driving while over the legal alcohol limit. Police said road safety enforcement would continue around Brisbane’s safe night precincts.
