European Parliament President Roberta Metsola will address journalists in Strasbourg ahead of the 2026 State of the European Union debate, scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Metsola’s media appearance will begin at 8:15 a.m. in the stand-up area near the Parliament’s hemicycle. The press point will be available via the European Parliament’s webstream and the European Broadcasting Service.

The debate is due to begin at 9 a.m. with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to attend as a guest of honour.

The annual debate gives members of the European Parliament an opportunity to examine the Commission’s work and influence the direction of European Union policy. Journalists attending in person have been advised to arrive well in advance.
