Police in Broadbeach have apprehended two teenagers following a daring armed robbery involving electric bikes. The incident occurred outside a fast-food outlet on Australia Avenue on the evening of April 15th, according to the Queensland Police Service (QPS). At approximately 9:15 pm, two boys, aged 16 and 14, were confronted by the suspects, who threatened them with a knife and demanded their electric bikes. Following the theft, the assailants fled the scene, prompting an immediate police response. Officers conducted area patrols leading to the swift arrest of the suspects on Queen Street and Jane Street in Southport. The stolen electric bikes were recovered, and the suspects, both 13-year-old boys from Slacks Creek and Logan Central, were charged with two counts of armed robbery. They are expected to appear in Southport Children’s Court today. This incident forms part of the broader “Operation Yankee Forge,” a six-month statewide initiative by QPS targeting high-harm and high-volume crimes, including vehicle theft, burglary, and robbery. The operation aims to bolster community safety through increased police visibility and coordinated efforts across various districts, emphasizing crime prevention and disruption.
