Ukraine, Moldova Align on EU Path

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Moldovan President Maia Sandu discussed their countries’ shared path toward European Union membership and expanded bilateral cooperation during a meeting on Jan. 7, according to the Ukrainian president’s office.

Zelenskyy thanked Moldova for its continued support for Ukraine during Russia’s full-scale invasion. The leaders also addressed the peace process, diplomatic efforts and cooperation with U.S. and European institutions.

The talks covered bilateral trade, economic and agricultural cooperation, security coordination, and joint infrastructure and border projects. Particular attention was given to opening the first EU negotiating clusters for Ukraine and Moldova simultaneously.

The presidents also discussed strengthening trilateral cooperation among Ukraine, Moldova and Romania.
