Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska participated in the 10th Ukrainian Women’s Congress, a national forum focused on women’s leadership and gender policy. The event brought together more than 45 Ukrainian and international speakers across seven discussion platforms.

Zelenska highlighted progress in women’s economic participation and legal rights over the past decade. She said women now launch nearly 60% of new businesses, compared with 44.8% 10 years ago, and lead more than 34% of companies. She also cited Ukraine’s ratification of the Istanbul Convention and expanded legal rights for parental leave.

The first lady said Russia’s invasion had placed additional responsibilities on Ukrainian women, who have taken on roles in the armed forces, heavy industry, logistics and agriculture. She said their contributions had helped sustain the country and its economy.

This year’s congress focused on the theme “From Exceptions to New Standards.” Zelenska called for equal pay, accessible schools and kindergartens with shelters, shared parenting responsibilities, and greater access for women to leadership and political positions.
