Queensland police have charged five teenagers following an investigation into a fire that damaged an athletics facility at Sippy Downs last month.

Emergency services were called to the athletics club on Olympic Way at about 2:18 a.m. on Aug. 9 after a rubbish bin caught fire. The bin was destroyed, and the athletics track beneath it sustained significant damage.

A 15-year-old Palmview boy, a 14-year-old Palmview boy and a 14-year-old Sippy Downs boy were each charged with arson, wilful damage and disguising their faces with intent to commit an indictable offence. Two 13-year-old Sippy Downs boys were charged with arson and the same face-disguise offence.

All five teenagers have been dealt with under the Youth Justice Act. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Policelink or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.
