A four-day multi-agency operation in Moreton Bay has resulted in three people being charged and 41 infringement notices being issued as authorities targeted boating safety and compliance ahead of the warmer months. Brisbane Water Police led the operation with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, Maritime Safety Queensland, Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol, and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. Officers intercepted 179 vessels while checking safety equipment, licensing, alcohol compliance, and fishing regulations. Police and wildlife officers also discovered an illegal campsite in the Moreton Bay Marine Park and located a four-metre dinghy allegedly reported stolen. A 38-year-old Mitchelton man was charged with receiving tainted property and unlawful use of a motor vessel. A 48-year-old man was charged with boating under the influence after being stopped near the Nudgee boat ramp. Police said a breath test returned a reading more than twice the legal limit, with a subsequent reading of 0.100 at Hendra Police Station. He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on September 24. Authorities urged boaters to carry appropriate, accessible safety equipment, comply with fishing rules and avoid mixing alcohol or drugs with boating.
