Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a series of meetings and calls on Sept. 3 focused on strengthening air defenses, expanding international cooperation and supporting the country’s reconstruction. The discussions included efforts to accelerate interceptor production for jet-powered Shahed drones and increase private-sector involvement in defense manufacturing. At a meeting of Ukraine’s Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Staff, officials examined ways to expand production of drone interceptors and air defense systems. Zelenskyy also said Ukraine was preparing economic measures intended to increase pressure on Russia, with related meetings planned for September. Zelenskyy met with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar to discuss peace efforts, security and bilateral cooperation. The visit marked Jaishankar’s first separate trip to Ukraine and followed his previous visit in 2024 as part of a delegation accompanying Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Ukrainian president also spoke by phone with Peruvian President Keiko Fujimori about Ukrainian drone technologies and increased trade. In addition, he met Catalan President Salvador Illa and Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni to discuss regional cooperation and Ukraine’s reconstruction.
