NASA Swears In New Deputy

Matt Anderson was sworn in May 21 as NASA’s 16th deputy administrator during a ceremony at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in Washington. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman administered the oath.

Anderson will help oversee the agency’s efforts to implement national space policy and advance its exploration, science and aeronautics missions. NASA said he will also support efforts to strengthen U.S. leadership in space.

President Donald Trump nominated Anderson on Jan. 13, and the U.S. Senate confirmed him May 18. His background includes leadership roles in the Air Force, Space Command and the aerospace industry.

Isaacman said Anderson’s operational and technical experience would support NASA’s upcoming missions. Anderson said he was honored to serve and emphasized disciplined execution, technical excellence and accountability as priorities for the agency.
