In a sweeping operation, Europol and the European Network of Fugitive Active Search Teams (ENFAST) have nearly cornered some of Europe’s most elusive criminals. Over June 3rd and 4th, the 2026 ENFAST Trackathon took place at Europol’s headquarters in The Hague, marking a significant stride in international law enforcement cooperation. The event convened nearly 100 investigators and open-source intelligence specialists from 31 countries. These professionals joined forces for a relentless 48-hour intelligence-gathering marathon, targeting suspects wanted for severe offenses like murder, armed robbery, and large-scale drug trafficking across Europe. All suspects are subject to active European Arrest Warrants. The operation’s intensity and collaborative nature led to fruitful outcomes, with new investigative leads identified in 56 out of 57 high-priority fugitive cases. Notably, 26 of these cases now have potential information on the fugitives’ whereabouts, thanks to the painstaking efforts of the assembled multilingual teams. These specialists utilized a mix of open-source intelligence and social media scrutiny to trace digital footprints that could lead to the fugitives’ capture. This year’s Trackathon also saw significant contributions from private-sector partners, enhancing the operational capabilities through advanced open-source intelligence techniques. As Europol and various FAST units remain on high alert, the new leads are expected to accelerate national efforts to apprehend these fugitives, ensuring a higher level of public safety across Europe. The success of this operation underscores the power of collaborative law enforcement and the increasing role of digital intelligence in solving international crime.
