Brisbane’s City Criminal Investigation Branch has successfully charged 16 individuals with over 90 criminal charges, concluding the extensive Operation Yankee Rend. The operation, which began in January following intelligence about methamphetamine trafficking in Brisbane’s inner north, has significantly disrupted local drug distribution networks. The culmination of the months-long investigation saw the apprehension of 16 suspects involved in a wide array of crimes, including trafficking and supplying dangerous drugs, possessing proceeds from trafficking, and illegal possession of firearms. Police also seized substantial quantities of drugs, including 1.6kg of methamphetamine and 111g of cocaine, along with a revolver handgun and over $16,000 in cash believed to be from drug transactions. Significant arrests include a 36-year-old man from Redbank Plains who, on March 7, allegedly attempted to evade police and discard a bag of methamphetamine. Following this incident, a search warrant executed on March 8 at a Somerset address led to the discovery of a revolver handgun. The individual faces multiple charges, including trafficking in dangerous drugs and possession of weapons. He appeared before Brisbane Magistrates Court on March 9 and will reappear on June 29. Additionally, a 38-year-old woman was apprehended on May 3 during a raid at a Mount Gravatt East residence, facing 11 counts of supplying dangerous drugs among other charges. She is scheduled to appear in court on June 11. Another significant arrest involved a 35-year-old man from Eli Waters, caught on January 24 after attempting to flee from police. He faces multiple drug possession and obstruction charges, with his court date set for July 20. Acting Detective Inspector Sean Webster of the North Brisbane District City Valley Crime Group emphasized the operation’s impact, stating that the trafficking and supply of illicit drugs severely harm communities and individuals. He warned that law enforcement would continue to target drug distribution networks aggressively. Post navigation Fugitives Cornered in Europe-wide Blitz
