A 44-year-old man from Cairns North has been charged with three serious offenses following an alarming incident on June 6. The confrontation occurred near a McLeod Street residential unit at approximately 4:40 PM, Queensland Police Service reported. Police were initially present at the location for a separate issue when they overheard an argument between two men in the driveway. During the dispute, officers reported hearing a gunshot and observed the accused wielding what appeared to be a homemade firearm. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. Upon further investigation and a search of the man’s residence, police discovered two improvised firearms. The accused allegedly threatened to shoot a 40-year-old man involved in the altercation. He now faces charges including dangerous conduct with intent to maim, unlawful use of a category D/H/R weapon, and unauthorized possession of explosives. Following these charges, the man was denied bail and is expected to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court. Queensland Police urge anyone with additional information to come forward and report via Policelink or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
