Mackay Police have made significant headway in a major property crime crackdown, resulting in the arrest of 15 individuals facing a combined 76 charges over a two-week period. This operation highlights the ongoing effort to combat property-related offenses in the region, including burglary and the unlawful use of motor vehicles. The crackdown saw adults and juveniles alike being charged, with 10 adults facing 52 charges and five juveniles for 24 charges. Specific incidents included the recovery of a stolen black Hyundai Tucson on June 4, following reports of attempted break-ins in Beaconsfield. The Mackay Dog Squad successfully tracked down two suspects from the abandoned vehicle to a nearby residence, leading to their arrest. Among those apprehended were a 29-year-old Andergrove man charged with multiple offenses including burglary and possession of methamphetamine, and a 19-year-old South Mackay man facing charges across eight counts of burglary and related crimes. Both individuals have been remanded in custody, with court appearances scheduled for June. Superintendent Dean Cavanagh of the Mackay Whitsunday District emphasized the commitment of local police to safeguarding the community and holding offenders accountable. He also acknowledged the crucial role of public cooperation in addressing these property crimes. This local operation is part of the broader six-month initiative, Operation Yankee Forge, aimed at reducing high-volume and high-harm offenses across Queensland. The strategy includes enhanced police visibility and coordination with specialist squads and partner agencies to disrupt criminal activities, focusing particularly on unlawful entries and vehicle-related crimes. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities through Policelink or Crime Stoppers, contributing to community safety and crime prevention efforts.
