Ukrainian officials have revealed that the missiles and drones used by Russia in its recent attack on Ukraine contained components manufactured in several Western and Asian countries. The disclosure was made during a meeting with European ambassadors in Ukraine, aimed at intensifying sanctions against Russia. Pavlo Palisa, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, alongside Vladyslav Vlasiuk, Advisor and Commissioner for Sanctions Policy, showcased parts from Russian Zircon, Kalibr, and Kh-101 missiles, as well as Geran-2 drones, used in the attacks on May 24. These components included technologies from Switzerland, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, China, among others. Some were reportedly produced as recently as this year. The meeting highlighted the critical role foreign technology plays in enabling Russian military capabilities, with a specific focus on the need to halt the supply of these components to Russia. Vlasiuk emphasized the necessity of tightening controls over Belarus, where some missile components were manufactured. He called for increased personal sanctions against those facilitating the logistics that support Russia’s military actions, including the shadow fleet that has reportedly generated substantial revenue for Russia’s armament efforts. The European ambassadors expressed their support for Ukraine’s stance and agreed to enhance efforts on sanction enforcement and the development of new sanctions packages. The continued collaboration aims to mitigate the threats posed by Russia’s military activities, which have significant implications for European security and stability.
