Ukraine, Moldova, Romania Deepen Cooperation

Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine, Maia Sandu of Moldova and Nicușor Dan of Romania held a trilateral meeting in Chișinău on Aug. 27, discussing regional security, energy, infrastructure and economic cooperation.

Zelenskyy thanked Moldova and Romania for supporting Ukraine during the war and said the three countries needed to coordinate their response to security threats. He cited continued Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities, including repeated air raid alerts in Kyiv.

The leaders discussed strengthening energy links and infrastructure connecting the three countries. Zelenskyy also emphasized the importance of keeping regional export routes, known as Solidarity Lanes, operating at full capacity despite efforts to disrupt Ukraine’s ports and Black Sea trade.

Security and defense cooperation were also on the agenda. Sandu called for increased international support for Ukraine’s air defenses ahead of winter, while Dan said Ukraine and Romania would continue working together on economic, energy, infrastructure, education and national-minority issues. The leaders presented their cooperation as part of broader efforts to improve stability in the region and across Europe.
