Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Moldovan President Maia Sandu and Romanian President Nicușor Dan in Chișinău on Aug. 27, discussing regional security, energy cooperation, infrastructure and closer ties among neighboring countries. The trilateral meeting took place during events marking Moldova’s Independence Day. Zelenskyy said cooperation among countries bordering Russia and other European nations was essential for strengthening defense and supporting regional development. Zelenskyy and Sandu also discussed prospects for bilateral relations between Ukraine and Moldova. Ukrainian officials said the talks focused on the security situation, energy issues and infrastructure projects. In a briefing cited by the Ukrainian presidency, Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence and Foreign Intelligence Service said Russia was preparing an additional mobilization campaign. The agencies estimated that Moscow could seek to recruit 300,000 people in 2026 and another 300,000 in 2027. Zelenskyy said Ukraine, Moldova and other free European nations would continue working toward a peaceful and united Europe.
