A 38-year-old Springfield Lakes woman has been charged with multiple drug and weapons offences after police allegedly seized a 3D-printed firearm, ammunition and drugs during a search in Augustine Heights. Officers from the Ipswich Tactical Crime Squad and Ipswich Criminal Investigation Branch searched a Technology Drive property on September 15. Police allege the privately manufactured firearm was designed to resemble a popular children’s toy. The woman faces four counts of possessing dangerous drugs, two counts of possessing Schedule 4 medicine and single charges including possessing a relevant substance, possessing a Category D/H/R weapon, possessing explosives without authority, possessing drug utensils and failing to dispose of a needle or syringe. She is scheduled to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on October 7. Senior Sergeant Michelle Blaney said privately manufactured firearms posed a significant community safety risk because they could be produced outside traditional supply chains and concealed in non-traditional forms.
