Six people have been arrested in a coordinated operation targeting an Italian organised criminal network accused of producing and distributing large quantities of counterfeit euro banknotes. The Europol-supported raids took place across Germany, Italy and Spain, with authorities searching 16 residential and commercial properties. The operation was coordinated by Germany’s Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office and the Stuttgart Public Prosecutor’s Office. Two pistols and ammunition, counterfeit euro notes allegedly linked to the “Napoli Group,” drugs, mobile phones and data-storage devices were seized during the searches. Investigators said the network involved five Italian nationals and one Turkish national and was linked to the Camorra. The group is accused of supplying high-quality counterfeit currency to criminal organisations in Germany and Spain. Authorities estimate that several hundred thousand counterfeit notes were circulated through the network. Five of the suspects were placed in pre-trial detention, while one was released under judicial conditions. Europol deployed specialists to Stuttgart and Naples to support information-sharing, financial analysis and checks against European databases.
