Ukraine Bolsters Military Commands

In a significant move to enhance its military capabilities amidst ongoing conflict, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the establishment of two new specialized commands within the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This strategic development, aimed at intensifying long-range operations and rapid response capabilities against Russian forces, was disclosed through an official presidential decree on July 10, 2026.

President Zelenskyy revealed that the newly formed Special Command for Long-Range Impact will focus on degrading Russia’s warfighting potential from afar. This unit is designed to maximize the utilization of available resources to execute strikes deep within Russian territory, as well as in areas temporarily occupied by Russia in Ukraine. The command is to be led by a highly experienced and strong military commander, although specifics were not disclosed in the announcement.

Additionally, the establishment of the Joint Rapid Response Forces was declared. This unit will amalgamate the combat prowess of Ukraine’s assault forces with advanced unmanned and artillery components, aiming to deliver swift and effective responses on the frontline. President Zelenskyy appointed Brigadier General Dmytro Voloshyn, a seasoned officer and the commander of the 8th Airborne Assault Corps, to spearhead this initiative. This move underscores Ukraine’s commitment to modernizing and enhancing its military response capabilities through technological integration and strategic leadership.

The Ukrainian leader also emphasized the ongoing necessity for robust international support and more proactive diplomatic engagements with neighboring countries. Daily Russian attacks across various Ukrainian regions underscore the critical need for immediate and sustained aid from international partners, according to Zelenskyy.

In his address, President Zelenskyy expressed gratitude towards the Ukrainian military and diplomatic corps and reiterated the nation’s resolve to defend its sovereignty. “Glory to Ukraine!” he concluded, signaling a steadfast continuation of Ukraine’s defensive and diplomatic efforts amid the conflict.
