Townsville Water Police successfully rescued two men off the coast of Townsville after their kayak overturned due to a large wave at Middle Reef last week. The incident occurred approximately at 1pm on April 20, as the men were returning to the mainland from Picnic Bay at Magnetic Island.

The kayakers, a 62-year-old from Kirwan and a 35-year-old from Annandale, found themselves in a precarious situation when a sudden wave capsized their kayak, rendering them unable to re-enter the vessel. Following an emergency call, the Water Police swiftly responded to the scene, providing essential assistance to the stranded men before transporting them safely back to shore.

Upon rescue, both individuals were evaluated by paramedics and were found to be uninjured. The Queensland Police have praised the quick response of the Water Police and urged the public to remain vigilant and prepared when engaging in water activities. They also reminded the public about the availability of reporting any suspicious activities or emergencies to Policelink or Crime Stoppers at any time.
