Detectives from the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch have charged two individuals in connection with a suspicious fire in Bundall on March 30, as announced by Queensland Police Service. The fire, which broke out around 4:50 AM at a property on Ashmore Road, prompted emergency responses and precautionary evacuations of a neighboring property.

Authorities allege that a 25-year-old man from Southport was responsible for spreading an accelerant at the scene, subsequently causing significant damage to the building. He reportedly fled the area on an electric scooter. Police later apprehended the man on April 2 at a South Brisbane motel, where he was found with severe burn injuries and taken to hospital for treatment.

Further investigations led to the arrest of a 25-year-old Southport woman on April 4, who is believed to have assisted the man after the incident. Both suspects have been charged with one count of arson – structure or building. They are scheduled to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on April 20.

The case is part of a broader six-month initiative by Queensland Police, dubbed Operation Yankee Forge, which aims to target high-harm and high-volume offenses across the state to enhance community safety. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist by contacting Policelink or Crime Stoppers.

Investigations into the Bundall arson remain ongoing, with police continuing to piece together the events leading up to the fire.
