Samsung Electronics used a CES 2026 panel in Las Vegas to examine how free ad-supported television, creator-led programming and live interactive experiences are reshaping the future of TV. The Jan. 6 discussion, held at The Wynn, brought together executives from Samsung TV Plus, Smosh and NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution. The panel highlighted the growing role of free ad-supported television, or FAST, as viewers respond to subscription fatigue and an increasingly fragmented streaming market. Samsung said its TV Plus service offers hundreds of live and on-demand channels at no cost across Samsung televisions and other devices, combining traditional channel discovery with connected viewing. Executives also discussed hybrid distribution models that bring together FAST, subscription and linear television. NBCUniversal executive Bruce Casino said FAST can extend the reach and commercial value of established content rather than replace traditional platforms. Panelists said the approach allows media companies to reach new audiences while continuing to use existing distribution channels. Creator-led programming was another focus, with Samsung presenting Smosh as an example of a digital-first brand expanding into television. Smosh CEO Alessandra Catanese said its partnership with Samsung TV Plus helped the company improve production quality, reach a broader audience and develop new growth opportunities. The panel further explored live programming and interactive features, including synchronized premieres and real-time participation. Samsung said it is investing in live events, creator content and interactive formats as television increasingly shifts from passive viewing toward shared and participatory experiences.
