Detectives from the Inala Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU) have charged a 27-year-old man with multiple offences, including torture, following a detailed investigation into alleged child abuse in Forest Lake, Queensland. The investigation, known as Operation Xray Boyd, began on March 5, 2025, after a seven-week-old boy was admitted to Queensland Children’s Hospital in an unresponsive state.

Medical examinations revealed that the infant had suffered extensive injuries consistent with prolonged physical abuse. Officers swiftly intervened, removing the child from the care of the 27-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman. Following a comprehensive investigation by CPIU detectives and the Crime and Intelligence Command’s Child Trauma Unit, the man has now been charged with three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of torture. He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on June 16, 2025.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Joshua Brewer commended the dedication of the investigating officers, stating, “This was a deeply confronting matter for CPIU detectives to undertake given it involved a vulnerable infant sustaining serious injuries. Detectives worked with care and determination to take appropriate action to remove the child from harm.” He also emphasized the importance of community vigilance, encouraging the public to report any suspicions of child abuse to the authorities.

For those with information, police can be contacted via Policelink or Crime Stoppers. The case highlights the critical role of community involvement in safeguarding vulnerable individuals.
