A 37-year-old Surfers Paradise man has been charged after police allege he drove a stolen vehicle from Arundel to Coolangatta and fled on foot when it was stopped on November 7.

Police said officers spotted a grey Honda HR-V on Napper Road, Arundel, at about 7:40 p.m. The vehicle had reportedly been stolen from a Southport address on November 3. Police and POLAIR tracked it south along the M1 Pacific Motorway toward Coolangatta.

A tyre-deflation device was deployed before the vehicle stopped on Griffith Street. The man allegedly ran from the car but was located a short time later on Boundary Street and taken into custody.

He has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle and driving without a licence. He is scheduled to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on November 9.
