Rockhampton Highway Patrol officers issued more than 350 traffic infringement notices and removed 21 impaired drivers from the region’s roads during a concentrated road safety operation. The operation targeted dangerous driving behaviours linked to fatal and serious-injury crashes. Police conducted about 1,500 roadside breath tests and 45 roadside drug tests, identifying nine drink drivers and 12 drug drivers. The infringements included 99 speeding offences, 33 stop-sign offences, 20 seatbelt offences and 13 mobile-phone offences. On August 27, police intercepted a grey Kia Sportage on Lakes Creek Road in Berserker. The 30-year-old Ormeau driver recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.127 per cent and was charged with driving over the middle alcohol limit. He is due to appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on September 25. Police also seized a non-compliant electric power-assisted cycle after it was allegedly ridden at about 40 kilometres per hour on the wrong side of Adelaide Park Road in Yeppoon on August 29. Capricornia District Inspector Ben Wiltshire said further high-visibility enforcement would continue under Operation Interpose, which is being conducted across Queensland to deter dangerous driving.
