Queensland police have charged a 40-year-old Port Douglas man following an investigation into alleged indecent acts at several resorts in the Far North Queensland town.

Detectives from the Mossman Criminal Investigation Branch launched Operation Yankee Mercator in July after receiving reports of a man allegedly acting indecently at resorts. Police allege the incidents occurred between July 2023 and July 2026 and involved several children and adults.

Officers executed a search warrant at a Port Douglas Road property on Aug. 18 and took the man into custody. He was charged with 11 counts of indecent act in a place to which the public are permitted access, five counts of indecent treatment of children under 16 and two counts of trespass.

Police said the man was refused bail and appeared in Cairns Magistrates Court on Aug. 19. Authorities thanked resort staff for their cooperation and urged anyone with information to contact Policelink or Crime Stoppers.
