Queensland police have charged a 40-year-old Port Douglas man following an investigation into alleged indecent behavior at several local resorts.

Detectives from the Mossman Criminal Investigation Branch launched Operation Yankee Mercator in July after receiving reports of a man allegedly acting indecently at resorts in Port Douglas. Police allege the incidents occurred between July 2023 and July 2026 and involved several children and adults.

Police executed a search warrant at a Port Douglas Road property on August 18 and took the man into custody. He was charged with 11 counts of committing an indecent act in a place to which the public is permitted access, five counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16, and two counts of trespass.

The man was refused bail and was scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on August 19. Queensland Police thanked resort staff for their cooperation and urged anyone with information to contact Policelink or Crime Stoppers.
