Detectives from Queensland Police have charged four men in connection with a series of violent incidents involving slingshots that terrorized Brisbane’s western suburbs between May 27 and June 1, 2026.

According to police reports, the accused allegedly used handmade slingshots to fire metal objects at unsuspecting pedestrians from a moving vehicle. The assaults resulted in multiple injuries, including a 22-year-old woman and a 36-year-old woman who were struck by metal objects in separate incidents in Paddington and Toowong on May 27. Further attacks on May 31 in Toowong and St Lucia left a 53-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman injured.

The breakthrough in the case came on the night of May 31 when officers from the Indooroopilly Criminal Investigation Branch intercepted a Hyundai i30 on Chapel Hill Road. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered two slingshots, two pocket-shot style devices, and knuckle dusters. This led to the detention of the vehicle’s two occupants. Over the following days, police executed additional search warrants in Redbank Plains and Forest Lake, discovering further evidence linked to the assaults and other illegal items, including cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

Charges laid against the individuals include assault occasioning bodily harm, serious assault of a person over 60, unlawful possession of weapons, and discharging a weapon in a public place. One of the accused was remanded in custody, while the others were granted bail, all awaiting court appearances later in June.

Queensland Police continue their investigation and are urging anyone who may have been a victim of similar assaults to come forward. They also encourage the public to report any suspicious activities directly through their official reporting channels or anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
