Police in Moreton have apprehended four individuals linked to a series of vehicle thefts and break-ins across the district, marking a significant crackdown on auto-related crimes. The string of incidents began on June 5, when a grey Mitsubishi Outlander was stolen from Tropic Street in Morayfield around 3:30 pm. The following day, a white Chery Omoda station wagon was taken before dawn from Rossini Street in Burpengary. Both vehicles were later observed traveling together in Caboolture. A coordinated police response involving POLAIR led to the deployment of a tyre deflation device in Narangba, which halted the Chery. One suspect attempted to escape on foot into nearby bushland but was promptly apprehended. The vehicle ultimately stopped on Dean Drive, and three additional suspects fled but were soon captured with the assistance of Police Dog Hooper and the Moreton Tactical Crime Squad. Charges laid against the suspects include unlawful use of a motor vehicle, break and enter, and obstructing police. The offenders, ranging in age from 19 to 25, are all local to the area and are scheduled to appear in Caboolture Magistrates Court throughout July. The incident is part of Operation Yankee Forge, a six-month initiative aimed at reducing high-harm and high-volume crimes such as vehicle theft and burglary. The operation involves enhanced police activities, including coordinated efforts by regional police supported by specialist squads, to bolster community safety and hold offenders accountable. Authorities continue to seek the public’s assistance for any additional information or footage related to these incidents, urging witnesses to reach out to Policelink or Crime Stoppers. The initiative underscores the commitment to crime prevention and community security, promising increased police visibility and proactive measures across the state.
