Detectives have arrested a 34-year-old man from Canungra on charges of arson following a domestic violence incident. The accused allegedly set his own house on fire by igniting a mattress in the bedroom. The incident occurred at around 4:00 PM in a residence on Riverbend Drive.

Authorities reported that the fire quickly engulfed and destroyed the entire house. Fortunately, no other individuals were present in the home at the time of the incident. Police apprehended the suspect shortly after on Canungra Street.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court tomorrow. The case is being treated as a domestic violence offense. The Queensland Police have urged anyone experiencing or witnessing domestic and family violence to report it immediately.
