First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, has successfully concluded the Ukrainian Season of Culture in France, marking a significant milestone in cultural diplomacy between the two nations. The season, which spanned four months and spread across 11 regions and 43 cities in France, included nearly 190 events featuring about 200 participants from various sectors. The initiative, which began in December last year, was inaugurated by Zelenska alongside notable figures including the French First Lady and the Mayor of Paris. It aimed to introduce French audiences to Ukrainian art and literature, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation between the two cultures. According to Zelenska, this cultural exchange is crucial as it reverses the historical trend where Ukrainian artists sought inspiration in Paris; now, French stages and museums are celebrating Ukrainian creativity. Beyond the immediate success of the events, the program has laid the groundwork for continued educational and cultural cooperation. Notably, 16 French universities have joined the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies, with ongoing collaborations featuring the Sorbonne University and the University of Bordeaux. These partnerships focus on developing Ukrainian language courses and humanitarian initiatives, among other interdisciplinary projects. Zelenska underscored the resilience of culture and knowledge against aggression, highlighting the role of understanding and respecting diversity in sustaining civilization. She remains optimistic about the future impacts of these cultural engagements, evidenced by the expansion of her Ukrainian Bookshelf initiative, which now includes 390 installations worldwide, seven of which are in France.
