Queensland Police Service’s Road Policing Task Force (RPTF) has recently concluded a significant operation in Rockhampton, aimed at curbing unsafe road behaviors. Dubbed Operation Yankee Interpose, the intensive seven-day initiative spanned from April 20 to April 26, 2026, involving both marked and unmarked police vehicles patrolling the district. The operation led to over 1,000 roadside breath tests and more than 70 roadside drug tests being conducted. A notable incident involved a 61-year-old Calliope man charged with drink driving on Gladstone Road, recording a blood alcohol level of 0.062 percent. He is set to appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on May 18. Additionally, a 32-year-old Gracemere woman was fined $1,919 for exceeding the speed limit by over 40km/h and tested positive for drugs during a subsequent test. She faces a court appearance on June 26. Beyond individual cases, the operation resulted in more than 180 traffic infringements, underscoring the persistent issue of dangerous driving behaviors. Queensland Police Service maintains a high-visibility presence across the state, emphasizing that enforcement alone is insufficient to eliminate risky driving behaviors. The campaign stresses personal responsibility in adhering to road safety, highlighting the severe risks associated with driving under the influence, speeding, and distracted driving. Queensland Police urge the public to comply with road safety laws, reminding drivers that police patrols can be expected anywhere, anytime. The overarching goal of these operations is to significantly reduce the number of lives lost on roads due to preventable accidents.
