The European Parliament is gearing up for a series of crucial meetings and discussions from April 20 to 26, 2026, that will see significant legislative activities and policy discussions.

Key on the agenda is the negotiation between Parliament and Council on the revision of the regulation concerning the coordination of social security systems. Scheduled for Wednesday, this meeting aims to establish fairer and clearer rules regarding social benefits for EU mobile workers. Additionally, the Industry, Research and Energy Committee will host a session with Defence and Space Commissioner Andrius Kubilius to address topics including the agile and rapid defence innovation programme (AGILE) and the overall EU defence readiness, set for Monday.

Further discussions will involve the Foreign Affairs Committee evaluating the current state of the EU enlargement process with Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos. This session, also set for Monday, will explore the preparations for pre-enlargement policy reviews and expectations for the next six months.

The week will also include preparations for the April 27-30 plenary session in Strasbourg. During this session, MEPs will debate and vote on a range of issues, including the EU’s next long-term budget, animal welfare, consent-based definitions of rape, trade arrangements with developing countries, and the fundamental rights situation in the EU. A significant highlight will be the approval process for the management of the EU budget in 2024.

Moreover, the Parliament’s President, Roberta Metsola, has a packed schedule, attending the conciliation committee meeting on air passenger rights regulation on Monday and the informal European Council in Nicosia towards the end of the week.

This series of meetings highlights the active role of the European Parliament in shaping future policies and regulations that impact the lives of EU citizens and the bloc’s international relations.
