Police in Townsville have apprehended a 19-year-old man following a violent robbery incident that occurred early Monday morning, November 28. The suspect, an Aitkenvale resident, is facing multiple charges including robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle. According to the Queensland Police Service (QPS), the incident unfolded around 2 a.m. when the suspect allegedly broke into a home on Anne Street in the Vincent area. The intruder is accused of stealing various items, including the keys to a grey Toyota Granvia van. During the confrontation, the homeowner, a 77-year-old man, was assaulted, sustaining minor injuries. The suspect reportedly fled the scene in the stolen vehicle, which police later found abandoned near a Garbutt address. After locating the vehicle, authorities swiftly arrested the young man. He has been charged with two counts of entering a dwelling with intent, in addition to charges related to the robbery, vehicle theft, reckless driving, and operating a vehicle without a license. Following the arrest, the elderly victim was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation. The QPS has urged anyone with additional information or video footage of the incident to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation. The accused was denied bail and is scheduled to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on November 29.
