Officers from the Dalby Highway Patrol Unit apprehended a 47-year-old man in Jandowae on November 21, following a high-speed chase that concluded with a shocking discovery of severe alcohol impairment. The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 PM when police spotted a Subaru WRX speeding at 131 km/h in a 50 km zone on Myall Street.

Upon conducting a roadside breath test, authorities recorded the driver’s blood alcohol concentration at 0.158 percent, a figure over three times the legal limit. The immediate consequence for the driver was a license suspension, awaiting his court appearance scheduled for December 16 at the Dalby Magistrates Court. He faces charges of high-range drink driving and speeding.

Inspector Deb Harris-Taaffe of the Western Downs Patrol emphasized the critical impact of such reckless behaviors on road safety, citing drink driving and speeding as major factors in severe and fatal accidents across Queensland. “Drink driving and speeding are significant contributors to traffic incidents in our community,” stated Harris-Taaffe. “Enforcement of road laws remains stringent as part of our ongoing effort to ensure public safety.”

The Queensland Police Service remains committed to reducing traffic fatalities, which have claimed 282 lives this year alone in Queensland. The reminder from authorities is clear: road safety is a collective responsibility, and every decision behind the wheel is crucial.
