Police in Brisbane are calling on the public to help tackle a recent surge in vehicle thefts, particularly targeting Toyota LandCruisers and RAV4s. Between October 20 and November 12, authorities received 47 reports of such thefts from both private residences and businesses. The Queensland Police Service (QPS) highlighted a specific incident that occurred in the early hours of November 4. Four Toyota LandCruisers were stolen from a business located on Ipswich Road, Marooka. One of these vehicles was later found abandoned on Sherbrooke Road in Willawong. Efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining vehicles, including a 2013 silver LandCruiser, a 2017 white LandCruiser, and a 2017 grey LandCruiser, each with distinct Queensland registration numbers. In response to these thefts, QPS is not only intensifying their investigations but also promoting robust crime prevention strategies aimed at curbing vehicle theft. They advise vehicle owners to utilize off-street parking, secure vehicles within locked gates or garages whenever possible, and make use of security systems like CCTV cameras, vehicle immobilizers, and GPS tracking devices. Additionally, the police underscore the importance of always locking vehicles, even if leaving them unattended briefly, and keeping vehicle keys out of plain sight. Queensland Police continue to encourage anyone with information, including dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward to assist in their investigations. They also remind the public that they can report any suspicious activities anonymously through Crime Stoppers or contact Policelink for other crime-related information. For more comprehensive security tips or to schedule a security assessment with a District Crime Prevention Coordinator, residents and business owners can visit the QPS website.
