Logan police have successfully apprehended a 17-year-old from Meadowbrook after discovering a large knife in his possession during a routine security scan at a Shailer Park transport hub on October 31. This incident was part of the broader “Operation X-Ray Course” aimed at enhancing public safety.

At approximately 4:00 PM, officers from the Queensland Police Service Railway Squad were conducting wanding operations when they stopped the teenager for a metal detection scan. The scan signaled the presence of metal, leading to a search that revealed a large knife concealed within the boy’s bag. Subsequently, he was arrested and charged with possession of a knife in a public place, with proceedings handled under the Youth Justice Act.

Senior Sergeant Shayne Treasure emphasized the significance of such operations, noting that the size and potential danger of the weapon found made this case particularly alarming. “Wanding operations serve as both a deterrent and a detection mechanism, crucial for maintaining safety within public transport systems,” he explained. Treasure also issued a stern warning against carrying weapons, stressing the legal consequences and inherent risks.

The Queensland Police will continue these security measures across the Logan District, reaffirming their commitment to preventing knife-related crimes and ensuring the safety of the community. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities and contribute to maintaining safety in their areas.
