Queensland’s State Flying Squad (SFS) has concluded a significant deployment in the Far North, contributing to a substantial crackdown on property crime in the region. Over a ten-day operation, 15 officers from the SFS joined local forces, resulting in numerous arrests and charges.

During this intensified enforcement action, SFS officers charged 32 adults with 72 offences and 17 young people with 46 offences. Since the operation’s inception on August 9, the collaborative efforts have seen 360 adults charged with 1,482 offences and 170 youths charged with 378 offences. These charges include a range of property, drug-related, and domestic violence offences.

One notable incident involved officers executing an arrest warrant at a Cairns North address, which led to the discovery of methylamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. A 35-year-old South Mackay woman and a 42-year-old Westcourt man were among those charged with multiple drug-related offences. A separate case saw three individuals apprehended in Palm Cove with stolen property and weapons, including a taser.

Detective Inspector Jason Chetham praised the SFS’s efforts, stating, “The region has seen significant declines in offences over the past few weeks, thanks to the support from specialist units across the state.” The success of the operation underscores the importance of continued collaboration between local and state police to maintain community safety.
