In a significant safety operation, Brisbane police have seized multiple axes and other weapons as part of the ongoing Operation Marshall. Conducted under the provisions of Jack’s Law, which became permanent on July 18, the operation has led to more than 70 individuals being charged with nearly 140 offenses after over 4,900 wandings. The proactive scanning has been carried out in various public areas, including Safe Night Precincts, shopping centers, and public transport hubs. The goal is to mitigate risks associated with carrying edged weapons in public spaces and to educate the community on the dangers involved. Specific incidents include the seizure of an axe and shears from a 42-year-old man at Corinda train station on August 24 and a flick knife from a 24-year-old man in Fortitude Valley’s Safe Night Precinct on August 22. Both individuals are due to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court in September. The Queensland Police Service has emphasized its commitment to continuing these operations across Brisbane to ensure public safety and reduce the presence of unlawful weapons in the community.
