In an ongoing effort to enhance community safety, Townsville police have intensified their focus on repeat offenders, employing both overt and covert strategies. Since August 9, these operations have resulted in the arrest of 287 individuals, comprising 216 adults and 71 juveniles, on a total of 997 charges.

The enforcement measures feature high-visibility patrols in key hotspots such as the Townsville Safe Night Precinct, shopping centres, and public transport hubs. These activities are complemented by covert measures designed to identify and apprehend those responsible for significant harm to the community.

Detective Inspector Jason Shepherd highlighted the importance of these proactive measures, stating, “We are continuing our high visibility patrols as part of our ongoing commitment to community safety. Proactive actions like bail compliance checks and wandings make a real difference in deterring crime.”

Among the recent arrests, a 40-year-old Mundingburra man faces multiple charges, including armed robbery, following an incident at a post office. Additionally, a Townsville man was charged with domestic violence offenses, and a 50-year-old Heatley man was arrested for possession of a knife in a public place.

Community members are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to Policelink or Crime Stoppers to assist in these efforts.
