In an intensive operation to curb property crime, Far North police, supported by specialist units, have charged 59 individuals with 248 property offences since Sunday. This crackdown is part of a broader initiative to enhance public safety in the region.

The Queensland Police Service reports a total of 161 individuals have been charged with 730 offences since August 9. These offences include unlawful use of a motor vehicle, entering premises, breaches of bail, theft, drug-related crimes, and firearm offences.

The local police efforts have been reinforced by the Public Safety Response Team’s (PSRT) arrival, aiding officers in managing public disorder, critical incidents, and apprehending high-risk offenders. Superintendent Mick Searle expressed satisfaction with the operation’s progress, noting significant arrests of high-priority offenders.

Notable arrests include a 16-year-old linked to vehicle thefts in Edge Hill, and a 48-year-old man charged with wilful damage in Aeroglen. Additionally, police conducted 271 bail checks and discovered three weapons during 739 wandings as part of their proactive patrols.

Superintendent Searle assured the community of ongoing efforts to ensure safety through visible and covert operations. Residents with information are encouraged to contact Policelink or Crime Stoppers.
