Queensland police issued 29 infringement notices for unrestrained children during a two-day traffic operation across Ipswich, urging motorists to properly secure young passengers on every journey.

Officers from the Ipswich Highway Patrol conducted roadside checks from October 27 to 28, targeting traffic offences and educating drivers about child passenger safety. Police issued 49 infringement notices overall and conducted 258 random breath tests.

A 66-year-old Redbank Plains woman was intercepted with four unrestrained children in the back of her vehicle. She received $5,525 in fines and 19 demerit points.

Other offences detected included driving without due care and attention, disobeying road signs, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without a licence and driving with an expired licence. Senior Sergeant Jarrad Tyne said child restraints and seatbelts were essential to preventing serious or life-threatening injuries, even on short trips.
