A 21-year-old Aitkenvale woman has been charged after police allegedly found an axe and a machete in Townsville during an overnight patrol. Queensland Police said officers from Kirwan station were patrolling Alfred Street at about 12:20 a.m. on October 19 when they intercepted a man riding a bicycle without a helmet. Police allege the man handed a backpack to a woman accompanying him. Officers searched the backpack and allegedly found an axe. Police later located a machete in nearby bushes where the woman had been intercepted. Both weapons were seized. The woman was issued a notice to appear and charged with two counts of possessing a knife in a public place. She is scheduled to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on November 10.
